Sprains and Strains

Soft tissue injuries occur when muscles, tendons or ligaments are overstretched or torn causing pain, tenderness and swelling. Sometimes bleeding occurs leading to bruising.


Most footballers will have suffered a corked thigh or 'corky' during their career and this is caused by an injury to the thigh muscle and associated bruising.


Another common sports injury which many sportspeople are familiar with is a sprained ankle.


Tendonitis and tenosynovitis are strains to tendons and are often caused by repetive movements leading to overuse of the tendon.


The first 48 to 72 hours of treatments for sprains and strains are critical and usually treatment should be started as soon as possible after the injury.
